2 Kids - Day 19

Sam's taking a nap and Liam is chillin in the bouncy seat, so I thought I'd post a quick update on how we're adjusting to life as a family of 4.

It's crazy that I gave birth to Liam almost 3 weeks ago. Me and Stephen both feel like he's been here forever!

I realized that for the first 5 days of his life I was up doing things around the house and going out running errands. Not a good idea. I could really tell that my body was not healing, so I made myself chill out. I've been doing very little, which drives me insane, but I can tell that it's been good for my body.

Stephen has been great to get up with Sam in the morning before he leaves for school or work. Sam was waking up at 8:30, but because of daylight savings time he now wakes up at 7:30. The time change has been an adjustment, but is overall fine with me because if it was any later Stephen wouldn't have time in the morning to help out with him.

Liam is doing awesome! He is such a good, chill baby. We did Babywise with Sam which was great; he was pretty much born on a schedule, we just had to fine tune it a bit. He thrived having a schedule and Liam does too.
With Liam we are not being as strict as we were with Sam. Sam is so independent and doesn't like being held/rocked/cuddled hardly at all. So this time around we are being quite a bit more relaxed when it comes to scheduling and holding Liam more often than we did with Sam. Yeah, it kinda stinks for Sam, but as parents a lot of the time it's "figure it out as you go".

Liam also was born on a pretty consistent schedule too though, so I haven't done any tweeking. He nurses more often than Sam did. I am not a demand feeder, but thankfully he doesn't want to use me as a pacifier either so we're both happy, lol.

During the day he has a few good, alert wake times, when he is ready he wants to be swaddled and held by his Momma for a bit which I am happy to oblige him.
At night he wakes up every 3-4 hours to be fed, have his diaper changed, and then he goes right back to sleep. My dream baby!

Stephen joked that with our first baby we were very careful about everything. He slept in a pack n' play bassinet with a changing table attachment. Nothing in the bassinet or crib, yadda yadda. He said with our second he has slept in a vibrating bouncy seat beside our bed and I nurse him and change his diaper on the bed, lol. Why get up if I don't have to right?

With Sam I would actually get up out of bed and go sit in my recliner several times a night to nurse him. With Liam I pull him up in the bed, pop him on, and go back to sleep until he's done, lol. Like I said, relaxed parenting.

Not a lot to update about. We're getting in a pretty good groove and waiting for Stephen to finish up school. I believe he is down to 3 weeks!! Woo hoo!
We are taking a much needed family vacation once he's graduated. I cannot hardly wait to get some quality time in with my man and my little dudes.

Oh! And on a side note. I spent hours, hours, typing up Liam's birth story for you people and I get barely any comment love. C'mon now! I know several people read this and I know several of you guys were very interested to know how it was gonna turn out. So post a comment! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts/opinions! It actually only took an hour or so to type up, it was put together in bits and pieces when I had a few moments available to sit down and type :)

Here's a few pics:

Mmmm, squishy baby!

Smiling :)

Sam's new love is blueberries. He also likes to finger paint with the juice when he's finished eating them. Gross, but that's cheap entertainment for him.

He put these on by himself then walked across the living room without breaking his ankle, yay!

Emery and Liam - Born exactly 3 weeks apart!

I commented on the birth story!! Even if no one comments, it's still nice to have a record of it right? I like to read about how you do things with each baby. I guess I'm probably somewhere in between the way you were with Sam and the way you are with Liam. I still feed Pierce on demand and it drives me crazy to not have a schedule. He never takes naps at the same time either. I tried to do a schedule but then I was like wait...I don't even have myself on a schedule, so that's probably not going to work. He used to sleep through the night and now he doesn't any more. I told Brock that I ruined him because he came to me as a perfect little sleeper, and now he's not. I guess that's what he gets as the first born. Anyway, your boys are cute! Does Stephen ever wear a shirt? He's like Brock, can't stand to wear clothes!

After reading your birth story, I was too tired to post a comment. With all the details I felt like I'd been through labor and delivery. I was also trying to decide if you are CRAZY or brave. Guess which one I settled on? lol.

Sorry Britney, I meant to give you credit for commenting, lol. I wasn't scheduled either when I had Sam, so I pretty much forced myself too. It ended up being fun because I could predict when he would wake up almost to the minute. Stephen was impressed, lol.
Tammy - I'm crazy!! And I'm gonna do it lots more! :D

Love the pictures! He is such a cutie... LOVE the hair (I'm a little jealous of that). If you are going to be in town (and not too busy) I would love to stop in and see you guys Thanksgiving weekend. If you can find time to squeeze me in I promise I won't stay long.
